Einladung zur ÖBG Jahrestagung 2022
Invitation to the Annual Meeting of the Austrian Soil Science Society in cooperation with EJP SOIL
Topic: “Soil Health and Carbon Farming”
Date: 21st September 2022
Venue: BOKU Schwackhöferhaus, Peter-Jordanstr. 82, 1190 Vienna Aula and Seminarräume 6, 7, 8 und 9;
Soil health is essential for supporting soils functions and their vital ecosystem services, including food and water supply, nutrient cycling, carbon storage, support to biodiversity and maintaining of landscape functions. The European Union has started the mission Soil Health and is preparing a Soil Health Law aiming at the transition towards healthy soils by 2030. In addition, soils play a growing role for climate change mitigation and adaptation. Carbon Farming is an approach to optimize carbon sequestration on managed land by implementing practices that are known to improve the rate at which CO2 is removed from the atmosphere and stored in soil organic matter of croplands, grasslands and forests. As an incentive for carbon farming Carbon Credit Markets launch market-driven solutions that reduce atmospheric greenhouse gases, preserve land, and generate income for farmers. Potentials for alternative management methods like agroforestry and regenerative farming will increase. The implementation of carbon farming calls for new and better soil monitoring. These challenges raise an urgent need for networking between young scientists, between scientists and funders, practitioners, policy makers and governmental institutions, which we all cordially invite to join our meeting. We especially welcome poster presentations on running projects.
You are invited to join or/and present a poster of your research work. Participation is free.
Please register per Email to Claudia.Haumer@bfw.gv.at.
Deadline for registration: 12th September 2022. The meeting will be held in accordance with the autumn CoVid-regulations.
